1) INVESTIGATE HOTELS
The first step in avoiding bedbugs while traveling is to investigate the hotels where you will be vacationing. Visit hotel review websites, travel websites, and consumer reporting websites to see if any past guests have complained of bedbug infestations. If you find that there have been numerous reports of bedbug sightings, it is probably best to find a different hotel.

2) INSPECT HOTEL FURNITURE
Once you have reached your vacation destination, the first thing you should do is inspect all furniture in your hotel room. This includes the mattress and box spring where bedbugs are generally found. Make sure to take off the sheets and mattress pad to make sure your room hasn't been infested with bedbugs.
3) KEEP ALL BELONGINGS OFF THE FLOOR
During your stay, it's important that you don't give bedbugs the opportunity to get into your belongings. This is why it is important to keep all of your belongings off the floor. Make sure all luggage is on a luggage stand for the duration of your stay. Some even suggest to keep luggage in the bathtub for extra protection.
4) THOROUGHLY CLEAN EVERYTHING UPON RETURN
Upon returning from your travels, make sure to thoroughly clean all clothes that were taken, including those that weren't worn. Using hot water and high dryer heat is recommended. It is also important to thoroughly clean all luggage that was used to ensure no bedbugs came back with you.
